It's not an app. It's the name used for the icon to get into settings or
menus or lists. It's called the hamburger icon because it's made up of
three horizontal lines, so it looks like a burger between two buns.

I'm also not sure how labeling or naming a picture or an icon is contributing
to anyone's illiteracy. IMHO, knowing how something is commonly referred to is
a good thing. I can't tell you how many times I Googled help for Chrome and was
told to click on the wrench icon.
Knowing that the wrench icon referred to the settings menu was an important
piece of information.

upper left corner of the app, like when you want to view the menu of
