Jonathan Mosen did one but it was for I Tunes 11 and while a few things may
still apply a lot of it is also outdated by now.
If you want to check it out it was a two-part series as part of the FS Casts
from Freedom Scientific.
Basically, if you want to edit using iTunes once you are on the song you want
to do press Control+I, then tab until you get to the edit field for song name,
artist, album etc. Just keep in mind that they don’t read that well right now,
at first it may appear the field is empty, but if you press the home key to go
to the start of the line and then do a say line with Jaws it will read what is
there and you can delete it and type something else or edit it, when you are
done tab to OK and activate.

Sieghard

Thanks Sieghard.
Rather than asking you for more instructions, I would only ask if you know a
good iTunes tutorial aimed particularly at people using screen readers. The
reason is, I have no idea how to edit tags in iTunes, or delete anything from
the stuff I imported. Some folders got imported that I want to get removed, and
I don’t see any way of doing that either right now.
So any good tutorial would probably cover that kind of thing, and other stuff
that I would probably find useful.
Thanks for any info.

I would use iTunes to edit the tags, with compellation albums it’s OK and
actually a good thing to have the artist name in the artist name field, but
make sure you put “Various Artists” in the field for Album Artist and then
further down as you tab through the options there is a checkbox which says
“Album is a compellation” or something like that. Make sure you check it and
then these kinds of albums show up as compellation albums in the artist column
if you use the column browser, but if you select the artist of a particular
song and you have, for example, also another album by that artist you still see
all songs by that artist.
I don’t know how much music you have, but even though it may take a lot of time
to fix all of this it is in the end worth it.

Sieghard

Subject: iTunes and Wrongly Tagged Audio Files

Hey Guys,
I have a bit of a mess on my hands. I didn’t intend it, but I accidentally
imported my entire music collection into iTunes. On the one hand, it is
convenient in that, to transfer music to my iPad Mini, I just go through the
list of albums and check off the items I want to transfer. Unfortunately, in
the process of going through that long list, I’ve discovered that some of the
albums are tagged incorrectly. And, as a consequence, the library is a mess.
For example, for a Various Artists collection, if there’s nothing in the Album
Artist tag, then iTunes lists the album under each individual artist that’s on
the album. Which means that I can’t transfer the entire album, as an album, to
my iPad as I would like to be able to do, but rather have to transfer each
track separately, which I don’t want to do.
So, if I retag these improperly tagged albums correctly, do I just add them to
the iTunes library manually? Since they’re already imported, will it remove the
other files, or do I have to do that manually? If I have to remove the wrongly
tagged stuff manually, I don’t see any way of doing that at the moment, so I’d
be grateful for any help with that.
Thanks for any advice on this.
Whatever the case, it looks like I’m in for quite a bit of work as it appears
that a good many of these need fixing.
Evan
