He has the 6S. And sometimes creating a new contact from info that he had gotten from a phone call is quite problematic as well. Just curious, what phone is he using? I don't have this problem. I just added a new contact the other day. If he has 3D touch, he can try pressing little hard on the phone app, and then choose new contact from the menu that pops up. Hope this helps some.
