No, it doesn't look like spam to me ... it doesn't ask the user to do anything which would compromise their online information.
I agree it seems overly urgent, yet there was some reason for the release of this update, and the message only urges an iPhone owner to upgrade to the update, nothing more. I guess you could check snopes if you wanted to spend the time, but as it's something we've all likely done anyway, there's no need to do so.
