If an over the air update just “patches iOS 10” then why is it a 2 Gb download?
I think whoever said this doesn’t really know what they are talking about and I
bet if you update via iTunes you have the same issues as everybody else. In any
case, when I clicked “Check for Updates” in iTunes it told me it could not
contact the update server and while this may have temporary, the over the air
update took 18 minute sfrom start of download to Voiceover starting up again
after the update so it couldn’t have gone more smmothly.

Sieghard

There are benefits, depending on your usage, for installing iOS via iTunes.
Since the iOS image needs to exist on the phone before it can be installed from
the phone, your storage habbits may not allow you to actually do an over the
air update without deciding which app you want to (hopefully temporarily!)
delete. Considering an iTunes update first installs the OS, then restores your
data from the backup it hopefully pulled from your phone pre-update, it's not
unreasonable to assume it blows what's currently on the phone away before doing
the install.

Importance: High
I have to say that I think this is rubbish.
I generally do over the air updates, the only ones I do via iTunes is if I get
a new iPhone, want to restore from an iTunes backup, but the IOS needs to be
updated before that can be done. can't say I have noticed any real differences.

Subject: Apple rumors about not upgrading over the air

Hi folks

I want to post a short storey about someone I know that contacted Apple about
the buggy ios11.

Apple helpdesk would have told him not to update over the air but update with
Itunes 12.7.

If you do so, most of the known bugs will not occur. Updating over the air
would result in a kind of adaptations, fixes in ios10 so that after the upgrade
ios11 will come up and install.
If you do it over itunes, really the whole ios will be deleted and replaced by
the new one.
I have difficulties to believe this.
What are the opinions?
Regards
Davy
