Cathey,

See Marks message concerning this below.

Hello Everyone,

I am going to cross-post this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries
mailing lists for those who, like me, use both iTunes for Windows and Mac.

First, let me state that I just spent the past hour working with iTunes 12.7
on two Windows 10 PCs in conjunction with an iPhone 6 S Plus, running iOS
11, with the latest version of Jaws on both computers.

Second, there are some initial video driver problems with iTunes when Jaws
is running.  Therefore, I suggest that you launch iTunes, at least once,
without Jaws running-using, perhaps, Narrator, as the screen reader.  After
that, you should be good to go with Jaws running with iTunes 12.7. This was
my experience on two Windows 10 PCs.

Third, be aware that some Jaws commands, including the Application button,
do not work on selected items in iTunes 12.7.  There are easy workarounds
but I just want you to know that if you encounter problems, it's probably
not your fault.

Fourth, be sure to explore iTunes 12.7 for Windows using the F6, Tab, and
arrow keys to gain a better understanding of the somewhat new layout of the
application.

Fifth, As in the previous version of iTunes, selecting the Summary tab, when
your iOS device is connected to iTunes will display the same options as in
iTunes 12.6 including the ability to configure accessibility settings.

Sixth, In order to add/or remove custom ringtones to and from your device,
you must make certain that the Manually Manage Videos and Music checkbox
option is, checked.  If you have to place a checkmark in the checkbox, be
sure to hit the Apply button to save this change, okay?

Okay, now to the fun stuff.  In iTunes 12.7 for Windows, it is no longer
necessary to actually use the file menu to import ringtones.  In fact,
attempting to do so will gain you nothing.  (smile).  So, to add a ringtone
to your device, using Windows Explorer, copy the file to memory using the
standard windows command of Control+C.

Next, with iTunes 12.7 in focus, your iOS device attached to your PC and
selected, using standard jaws navigation commands, place focus on the Tones
tab, located in the iTunes Sidebar.  Oh, make sure that you have iTunes set
to display the Sidebar.

Now, once you have the Tones tab selected, press the Tab key on your
keyboard until you land in the list view of currently installed custom
ringtones.  Then, simply use the paste command, Control+V, to add the
ringtone to your device.

By the way, you will notice that, as you tab around the tones area, you will
land on an actions button.  You can use this button to act on the currently
selected ringtone, such as playing it.

To delete a ringtone, you must place focus on the particular ringtone you
wish to remove from your device, and press the delete key.  Neither the
Application button nore the Jaws right-mouse click will work, at this time.
Even the Actions button will not offer a delete choice.  The only way to
remove the ringtone, at the time of this writing is to either press the
Delete key on the keyboard, or press the right mouse button on your mouse
and/or touch pad.

I am not sure, but was this done with the Mac computer, or with Windows PC? I do not have a Mac computer, so I would like to know how to do it from a Windows PC. I have windows 10. Thanks a lot and advance for the information. And if this is so for the windows computer, please let me know that too. I will read the article, and make sure that it is for a Mac computer. This did not seem to be very clear, again, thanks a lot for the info in advance.

How to Copy Ringtones to iPhone or iPad in iTunes 12.7

<itunes-icon.jpg>

You probably know by now that iTunes 12.7 brings some notable changes like the removal of the App Store from iTunes <http://osxdaily.com/2017/09/13/itunes-12-7-update-removes-app-store/>, requiring users to manage and install iOS apps directly on an iPhone or iPad without iTunes <http://osxdaily.com/2017/09/16/manage-ios-apps-iphone-ipad-without-itunes/> on a computer. Similarly, the ringtone and Tones section has also changed in the latest iTunes releases, which some users may find confusing when they go to adjust ringtones on their devices.

The good news is you can still copy and transfer ringtones over to an iPhone or iPad with iTunes 12.7, and as you’ll see it’s actually quite simple as you will see.

You’ll need the latest version of iTunes as well as ringtone files in .m4r format to accomplish this task. Note that even if you have installed iTunes 12.7 you will find the ringtone files are still stored locally <http://osxdaily.com/2012/12/21/iphone-ringtone-text-tone-location/> on the computer as m4r files, much like .ipa files are, so if you had some custom ringtones before you can likely still find them locally.

How to Copy Tones and Ringtones to iPhone and iPad in iTunes 12.7+

 1. Open iTunes on the computer if you have not done so already
 2. Be sure the iPhone is connected to the computer (via wi-fi or
USB) and identified in iTunes, then select the device in iTunes*
 3. From the Finder on the Mac, locate the .m4r ringtone file you
want to copy to the iPhone or iPad

    <ringtone-file-m4r-610x437.jpg>

 4. Drag and drop the ringtone .m4r file into the “On My Device”
section of iTunes to copy the ringtone or tone file over to the
    iOS device

    <copy-ringtone-to-iphone-itunes-12-7.jpg>

 5. A new “Tones” section will appear if it’s not already visible
showing the ringtones on the device, repeat with other tones and
ringtones in m4r format as desired

/* Remember, selecting an iPhone or iPad in iTunes is done by clicking the little device icon <http://osxdaily.com/2016/05/17/how-select-ios-device-in-itunes/> in the top bar of iTunes now./

As you can see, copying ringtones to an iOS device with iTunes is still quite easy.

And yes you can still make your own in iTunes <http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/04/make-free-iphone-ringtones-in-itunes-10/> the same way as always and copy those over.

This is kind of similar to using the drag and drop approach for copying music to iPhone in iTunes <http://osxdaily.com/2016/06/10/how-copy-music-onto-iphone-from-itunes/> or even copying .ipa iOS apps <http://osxdaily.com/2017/09/16/manage-ios-apps-iphone-ipad-without-itunes/> to devices.

Another option that doesn’t use iTunes at all is to create ringtones on the iPhone or iPad directly in Garageband <http://osxdaily.com/2015/01/12/create-ringtone-iphone-garageband/>, which can be done entirely on the iOS device and never requires any kind of syncing or copying since the ringtone .m4r files are created and then kept on the device itself.

Of course if this is too much of a bother, you can undertake a cumbersome task to downgrade iTunes 12.7 back to 12.6 <http://osxdaily.com/2017/09/17/downgrade-itunes-12-7-to-itunes-12-6/>, though be aware that by downgrading you are likely avoiding the inevitable future of iTunes as well as iOS device compatibility.
