Totally agree here. If I had a series 2, I probably wouldn't upgrade either but I have the original Apple watch and it's really become unacceptable in terms of performance, especially under Watch OS 4. It's gotten so clunky feeling that I have gone back to my Tissot silent T for now. My series 3 should be here today or tomorrow so I'm looking forward to the expected increase in responsiveness.
