Dave, have you tried using the braille screen input keyboard to look up apps? It works just like the handwriting but uses braille instead. On your home screen switch your rotor to the braille screen input keyboard. Now just start typing in the name of the app you are looking for. I normally only type 2 or 3 letters. Holding your phone in away mode, mute switch at top, screen facing away, just flick up with one finger to move from app to app. To activate the app your on, swipe 2 fingers from left to right, again, phone in away mode. The braille screen will then go away and the app will load.
