When it occasionally says screen curtain on after a brief pause, I also assume it has somehow temporarily lost focus and has had to restart itself. I don't know what causes this, it doesn't happen often. If VoiceOver stops talking and doesn't come back on, it is worth trying the three-finger double tap to see if it comes back on. Normally, this three-finger double tap is used to turn off speech temporarily, but still have VoiceOver running. When speech is needed again, do the three-finger double tap again, and it will say speech on. Occasionally, VoiceOver interprets a gesture as this three-finger double tap and stops talking when it isn't supposed to.
