Have you rebooted your phone? Unless an app forces landscape mode which some do despite orientation lock this has never happened to me.

I recently had to reset my iPhone 7 plus and, try as I might, I have not been able to locate the setting for locking the orientation mode to portrait. I do not like my phone switching from portrait to landscape and back whenever I adjust the phone’s position or my grip of the phone.
