Hello Jean-Philippe,
I agree that typing accented characters seems a bit awkward, but I certainly don't agree with you on the delete key issue. You can delete quickly by repeatedly tapping and lifting your finger off the delete key, if you do it fast enough you just hear the letters you are deleting just like I would if I press the backspace or delete key quickly on my computer. Takes a bit of practice since you do have to lift up and put down again exactly on the delete key. What would be nice is if Apple could keep things the way they are with the delete key and in addition to that re-enable split tapping just for the delete key since for Shift and More Numbers the touch typing method is vastly better than having to double tap or split tap. Not quite sure yet what to think about the accented character thing, I have to play around with it some more. Hi all, I sent the following request to Apple, trying to be as clear as I could. If you agree with my disagreement, I would like you to do the same with your own words. Thanks. Dear Apple team, This new iOS version is great, but I would like to point out some unpleasant issues with its revised touch typing mode. 1, It was a good move to give touch typing behaviour to keys such as capital or other but not for the delete key. let me try and explain why. In the previous iOS version, you could delete characters successively by holding the delete key and split tapping as many times as you wanted. You had full control of your delete speed because no matter where the second finger was typing, the delete function was performed as long as the delete key was held. Now, with iOS six, you must be very careful and accurate if you want to delete successive characters, as you have to constantly hit and release the delete key. The new delete double tap and hold function is too quick to let you hear the feedback of what you are deleting, so it is unusable most of the time. My wish is that the delete key was restored as it was in previous iOS versions. The second disadvantage is for non-English- users who use accented letters frequently. It is true that keyboard latency has been improved because of this, but it is now impossible to briefly hit a key and then double tap and hold it to get its alternative characters. You now have to do three gestures, find the right letter, split tap, and then double tap and hold to look for accents. May I suggest if possible, that you give us the accents list as soon as split tapping is performed, allowing us to scroll through it by sliding the second finger, that would be much easyer.
