It is designed to use the play button.
I personally lock the phone when I am reading to avoid accidental
interruptions because of touching the screen etc., plus it saves battery
doing it that way.

Richard, The problem of the repeating text occurs with the 2 finger swipe
down. When using the play button every thing is read correctly.

Yes, I have noticed this behavior. In fact, it started I think after I
noticed and reported that the last few words on every page were being
skipped. After the next update, I started noticing the repetition of
the last few words on every page. I figured it was better than missing
words so never reported it.
