Just playing devil's advocate here. I don't think Apple needs to include every 
possible accessory which is supported by the phone. You say it turned you off 
that Apple does not include a charging pad to allow for wireless charging of 
the iPhone. Of course the phone can still be charged by Lightning cable and 
that is included. Saying they have to include a charging pad in a way would be 
like saying Apple should include a Lightning splitter when they did away with 
the 3.5mm headphone jack so people who might want to use a wired Lightning 
headset can do so at the same time as they are charging the phone. As far as I 
know Apple doesn't even make such a gadget, only the Belkin Rockstar does this 
and it's $40 which is more than a basic charge pad. Also, Apple includes a 
relatively cheap wired headset but one could argue they need to include their 
Air[ppods again for the same reason which is the taking away of a 3.5mm 
headphone jack.
Apple of course doesn't include any of the higher-end accessories because they 
often come out with an expensive version which allows them to make more money 
which of course is every corporations goal and their responsibility towards 
their shareholders. The upcoming Apple charging pad is going to be a lot more 
sophisticated than the typical $15 charging pad you can buy from Amazon so I 
can see why they don't include some cheapo version for free if they in fact can 
sell one and make a good profit. Maybe down the road this changes as wireless 
charging becomes more common place.

Largely I went with the 7 Plus because of cost; the iPhone X is around
$1,000 for the base model. However, there in general were not any real big 
feature draws for me, the new animations were not appealing, and seemed more 
like a waste and fluff to me; the wireless charging sounded nice, but the fact 
that Apple did not include a wireless charger in the box with the X was a big 
downer; and, the storage.
iPhone X comes in 64 and 256 gig sizes. I have a 128 gig phone, and I wanted to 
hang onto that storage size for a bit longer. 128 is more than enough for me, 
and 256 seemed like it would be too much. In short, I couldn't justify the 
upgrade to the X. When I got the 7 Plus, the big advantage for me personally 
was that my wife and I switched US carriers from T-Mobile to AT&T. We were not 
satisfied with our T-Mobile services, especially last summer, and were more 
than ready to switch. AT&T may cost more, but you get what you pay for. One 
other minor reason for the 7 Plus is it still has the touch ID sensor. Touch ID 
strikes me as being lots more reliable than Face ID, from what I've heard from 
others. Yes, I know the 8 and 8 Plus have Touch ID, but see my comments earlier 
on the wireless charging issue. Granted, Apple can do what they want and charge 
what they want, but not including a wireless charger with the phone is like not 
including a wired charger with the phone; if they did that and charged people 
for the accessories then there would be lots of unhappy and angry customers.
