Thanks Mary.
Once I make my decision, I will likely go for the brilliant BI 14. In the past
I bought a pac mate 40 and frankly it was a bad investment. However, I still
like to know the differences between the two.

Cris

If you use jaws, then the focus is a good thing, because it has a lot of jaws
functionality that the BI 14 doesn’t have. If you don’t use jaws, then of
course that’s not a big deal. Since I have not seen either of these devices in
person, I can’t comment on the ergonomics, how quiet they are, etc.

How does the Brailliant BI 14 compare to the focus 14 in terms of

big plus.

Hi Mary and Chris

If it’s any help, I ordered and have received a Brailliant BI14, and am pleased
with what I saw. I like the size and weight of it - it makes it very portable
(much more so than other displays out there). I also really like the
stand-alone note taking feature on it - it just means you can get it out and
make notes really quickly/easily and then link those notes to your apple
devices when you have time/if you want to. Also, obviously, I like the fact it
will act as both a display and keyboard for my IPhone and IPad. There are a
couple of things I’d like to see improved, and I hope HumanWare will take them
on board.

Hi Chris,
No, I don’t have a demo. I have just heard demos. For the price, it’s a great
thing. But it wouldn’t be something I would want. The only reason I would even
consider this new 14 sell display is for the notetaking capability. I’m really
not thrilled with only 14 S. But the notetaking capabilities.

Hello Mary,
I have not heard the sound of the orbit refresh sound. I am very curious.
What I did not like about the orbit from the description is the weight, and
that it has no cursor routing keys. But I am curious to hear the refresh
sound. Do you have a demo?

Cheers,

Hi Chris,
Well, those displays like the orbit 20 that are available for less than $500,
have compromises. Have you listened to demonstration of that thing? The sound
of the line refreshing would drive me crazy. It’s great that it exists, but
it’s not something I want. And I’m glad I have the choice.

Hello Mary,
It is not much to expect. Now with the talk about braille displays for less
than five hundred dollars, It is not much to expect to add few mainly software
features, other than the microphone and a speaker.
I will see if it is on display anywhere close to where I live and go to have a
feel of the device.

Cheers,

No. For just under $1000, you were expecting it to duplicate the functionality
of devices costing double or more? It does not have the capabilities you
wanted. If you want that, be prepared to pay many thousands.

Hello folks,
I am thinking of ordering a brailliant BI Braille display to use with my iPhone
and iPad. From the description it sounds like a nice neat device. However, I
like to know if it can be used as a stand-alone device, not merely a display.
The Human ware description states that it can be used as a stand-alone device,
but it does not say much on what it can do in this mode other than taking notes
and having a timer and a stop watch. That is not that attractive. I like to
know what else it can do in the stand alone mode. Does it have a calculator?
Does it have a microphone and recording capabilities? Does it have an audio
player? Does it have a web browser and could it connect to the wi-fi?
If anyone can tell me more about it I will extremely appreciate it.

Regards,

Cris
