Yes, I always have it in portrait mode anyway. The issue I have really is that when you use the VoiceOver scrub gesture to go back from say: the message your viewing, to the message list and finally to the list of email accounts you have on the device.
Well I find that when I use the scrub gesture to go back from the message window to the list of messages, VoiceOver makes the bong sound and stays on the message window.
