The dedicated devices have an omnidirectional camera while the smart phone apps are dependent on the phone's camera which only sees straight ahead.

Mate bar code reader is designed for is that much more superior at what it does that having a stand alone bar code scanning device may be worth having? Also, for the record, I am completely blind so any features that the I.D. Mate bar code reader may have to assist folks with low vision wouldn’t matter to me and not be some sort of plus for having the device. Would appreciate any input or observations.
