We have the Philips Hue light bulbs, you need to buy a starter package with a bridge which gets plugged into your router, then you can buy various bulbs, either coloured or just white and there are by now a variety of bulb styles from regular A19 bulbs to E12 candle bulbs, BR30 and even LED light strips for mountin gunder a counter etc. Philips Hue also has a number of complete lights, we just bought an outdoor one which is mounted on the wall beside the door, they have floodlights and there are also motion sensors and some other switches. Philips Hue is Homekit, Alexa and Google home compatible so you can't go wrong with it. You have to name each bulb and you can group your bulbs into rooms or lights, e.g. in our kitchen we have a light above the dining table with has a single bulb and then there is a group of 3 lights roughly in the middle and another group of 2 above the sink. We called the dining table exactly that, dining table, the main kitchen group is just kitchen and the one by the sink I called kitchen sink. Now I can tell SIRI or Alexa to turn on the dining table or I can tell it to turn on kitchen and all 3 bulbs of the main light fixture come on, I can also tell it to turn on Kitchen Sink 1 in which case only one of the two bulbs there comes on. I can then furthermore say to "make the dining table 40%" and it dims it to less than half the full brightness, this one is also a coloured light so I can tell SIRI to "make the dining table light purple or whatever and it's done.spot
As for thermostats I have the Honeywell Lyric T5, a relatively inexpensive WiFi connected thermostat with an accessible app and again compatible with Homekit/Siri as wel as Alexa. If I wake up in the winter when during the night we lower the temperature I can just say "Alexa, set the temperature to 22 degrees" and it does it and the furnace turns on. I can also tell Alexa or SIRI to make it 1 degree cooler if it' S too warm but I can't remember what the temperature is set at and it lowers the temperature by 1 degree. For front door security we have a ring video doorbell which works OK although I would possibly consider the Honeywell Skybell or Nest Hello doorbell as well.
