Hi Jim, Just a few corrections: The iPhone SE is a generation newer than the iPhone 6 and has the same insides as the 6S except for no 3D Touch and it has the same first generation Touch Id home button as the 5S and 6/6 Plus not the improved one of the 6S/6S Plus. Also, for the first time iOS 12 will work on devices one year further back than in the past, Apple has confirmed during the June keynote that iOS 12 will work on all the same devices as iOS 11. For the most part that is because iOS 12 is much less of a version which brings new features but more one which brings bug fixes and efficiency improvements. During the June keynote they used an iPhone 6 to point out how much faster iOS 12 will run on it, how much faster it will load apps and so on. In the tech industry some people say Apple should have called it iOS 11.5 but of course this is not how Apple does things. The iPhone SE as well as the 6S/6S Plus will almost certainly still get iOS 13 next year and probably even iOS 14 in 2020 and only with iOS 15 in 2021 will they be dropped from the upgrade list.

First off the price may drop even lower than $100, but as Apple announces new products they also roll existing products into end of support and end of life. If Apple stays consistent iOS 12 will probably be the last version that will run on the iPhone 6 and probably the SE since they are basically the same hardware just in a different form factor. That being said the iPhone 7 will probably drop in price as it will technically be the 4th oldest version after the 9/12 announcement. I am considering replacing my iPhone with an iPhone SE since my carrier is offering the latter for $100. I don't want a phone with lots of bells and whistles, but I would like one that runs iOS 11X, which the iPhone does not allow. Are there compelling reasons why I should not upgrade to the SE? Thanks for any advice. Craig -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
