Hello Regina, The issue you are describing is one that I reported to Apple back in iOS 9 or so.
The problem has to do with how images are imbedded into the book, itself. For example, in the recently released iOS 12 book, if you can place focus just after a certain image or another, continuous reading will go on for a very, very, very long time until another such image is encountered. Of course, this workaround only exists if you can see the images. Regardless, I will, along with you and others, I hope, report this bug to Apple.
