Do you have your phone in a case and, if so, what sort of case? If it is that finnicky I would take it back and try a different pad, an iPhone certainly isn't moving half an inch or even a quarter of an inch from normal vibrations, maybe it would if you had a major construction side directly next to you. I just recently listened to a Podcast from the Woodwhisperer where the guy built a desk and he routed out a resess underneath the desktop so that the material there was only about 3/16 of an inch thick, he then installed the charging pad in this resess with a bit of hot glue and this way he could put the phone on it to charge without the desktop actually having the charging pad sitting on it. He played around with various thicknesses, when he left a quarter of an inch of wood it didn't work yet so he took out another sixteenth and then it worked, but only if his phone was in a thin case.

Hi all, I just purchased the Belkin Boost Up Special Edition Wireless Charging Pad from my local Apple Store to wirelessly charge my iPhone XS Max. I’m taken aback by how precisely the phone has to be positioned on the wireless charging pad, to the point where a half an inch or less difference in positioning makes all the difference. I basically have to align the phone very precisely in order for it to charge. Then, over the course of a few minutes, possibly due to the normal vibrations within the room, the phone moves about a half an inch away from the original position and stops charging. In reading the reviews from the Apple Canada Store, it seems others are having this issue with these products. In my imagination, the point of wireless charging is to just plunk your phone on a surface and not have to worry about fiddling around with anything—it’ll just charge. But this hasn’t been my experience with this particular charger. What do others think? Are there wireless charging pads that work better?
