Now, as I said, I have no problems with the messaging app but I just tried to
dictate text in the Notes app and the results were unbelievably atrocious.
Again, like you, I am using an 8 Plus.

Interesting, when I use my Home Pod to dictate a message, the accuracy is
almost 100%.
I have noticed on the iPhone 8 plus, during dictation, I am hearing a whooshing
sound while dictating, but only in messages.
Maybe this has something to do with this refresh rate to which you are
referring.
I had read on a forum somewhere, a possible solution.
First, disable dictation.
Then, completely disable Siri.
These must be disabled for 24 hours so that all of your voice data will be
erased from Apple servers.
I am going to try this, since I am now obsessed by this highly strange and
irritating situation.

Okay, I have an iPhone 8 Plus and cannot reproduce this dictation bug.
Generally speaking, I use either my Apple AirPods or the inline EarPods that
shipped with the phone, itself.
Here's the thing, though, I can kind of see how others are getting this
dictation bug. I think it has to do with the video refresh rate problem that I
mentioned, a couple of days ago. This refresh rate issue occurs more
frequently when VoiceOver is enabled.
It's very difficult to explain because it has to do with a hiccup that takes
place within nanno-seconds. I remember that this kind of thing happened back
in the early days of iPhone 6.
Just report your findings to Apple and, hopefully, they will correlate them and
discern the problem. I'm almost positive that the solution will have something
to do with the various video display drivers on various models.
By the way, some non-VoiceOver users are reporting similar hick-ups at various
times. In fact, I had two sighted people call me, today, asking why there
phones kind of stall, only for a split second, but something, nevertheless.
Hang in there and we'll all get this figured out.

I also have an iPhone 8 and I am experiencing the same problem. It is also
adding words to the sentences that I have not spoken. I’m not sure what is
causing this. I have had an iPhone 5 six and seven and have use cases on all of
them and have never experienced this before. I have even taken it to the Apple
store so that they could see if something was going wrong with the speaker and
according to them the hardware with my phone is great.

Hello, I am sure this has come up before, I have a Home Pod, other
iPads and iPhones associated with the same Apple ID, and they all do a
wonderful job with dictation in I-Message.
On the main iPhone 8 that I am using, the dictation is 50% accurate,
completely unacceptable, on the Home Pod, it is nearly 100% accurate.
How the heck can I clear out whatever I-message is using, and start
fresh, it's the app that I use most frequently, and I would really
like to be able to count on its dictation capabilities.
