Sieghard, I was surprised to see him say he had to have iOS 12, but it does now say in the app store that iOS 12 is required. It could be because of the Siri shortcuts that if you had not already installed it, you cannot now without iOS 12. Seems odd, but that is my best guess.

Now, on to your question about iOS 12. It is the best and most stable release yet from Apple, but I cannot answer your question about whether you will be in trouble since I do not know what version you are currently using. If you are using iOS 11.4.1 then all indications are you will be fine and will not lose any functionality. I cannot speak to earlier versions that might let you use apps that are still 32 bit, since those will not run any longer.
