First, I have to admit to being wrong about one thing in Overcast, you cannot get the time of an episode until you have started to play it, but you do not have to download it. Now, on to your question about iOS 12. It is the best and most stable release yet from Apple, but I cannot answer your question about whether you will be in trouble since I do not know what version you are currently using. If you are using iOS 11.4.1 then all indications are you will be fine and will not lose any functionality. I cannot speak to earlier versions that might let you use apps that are still 32 bit, since those will not run any longer.
