It is always a good idea as the absolute minimum to make sure you quit all apps in the app switcher and reboot your phone prior to an update. If it is a major update, e.g. from iOS 11 to iOS 12 as in this case I usually do a reset network settings before the update just to make sure if there are any processes running that they are terminated.

As Sean said, give it a few days, then do a Reset Network Settings and also, afterwards, plug in your phone, then turn it off completely over night leaving it plugged in. Turn it on the next morning and see how it behaves. Just out of curiocity, did you do anything in preparation for the upgrade or did you just tell it to install when it prompted you? Lastly, remember that after you do a Reset Network Settings you have to reconnect to your WiFi and you will need to enter the WiFi Password, also, if you renamed your phone or if it is called anything other than simply “iPhone”, then you have to go to Settings > General > About and rename it in there.
