For those of you that want to check your screen brightness and adjust the
screen brightness, a bluetooth keyboard will come in very handy because you
can instantly check the brightness and if it's not where you want it to be
you can instantly change it to where you want it to be.. While I'm pretty
good with swiping and tapping, I couldn't change the screen brightness as
fast as I could do it on the keyboard. However, if there's a special
gesture that would allow me to do it from the home screen I'd like to know
about it. Please share. Thank you.

Even though I am running 12.0.1, maybe my old iPhone 6 is too old to take
advantage of this feature. I have tried increasing screen value both from
within the control pannel and settings, both with screen curtain on and off
when I change the value, and it never says the value returns to zero when I
turn screen curtain on. Restarting did not help. I may experiment to see if
my battery drain is worse with the value set higher and turning on the
screen curtain to see if it really is lowering the value to zero and simply
not changing what VoiceOver reads. In the meantime, it isn't all that hard
to change it in control pannel when needed. I am glad this feature works
for some of you.

Nifty feature I wasn't aware of.
One thing though, I’m noticing that with auto brightness turned on and after
I turn the screen curtain off, brightness will go up to whatever percentage
depending on ambient brightness, but when I enable the screen curtain, the
brightness doesn't go back to zero.
Can anyone else confirm this?
This would be my concern with the battery draining if I were to use this
feature since it's so easy to turn screen curtain back on and not bother
about checking brightness

I believe the feature where screen brightness was set to 0% automatically
when screen curtain is on was introduced in iOS 11 at some point.

I can confirm this as well. Turning on auto brightness along with the screen
curtain always turn the brightness down to zero. You can verify this by
looking in the control center at screen brightness when both auto brightness
on screen curtain are on it should read 0%.
