They recommend it, for all new phones, just for the first charge. It won't
do any arm to your phone.

I think the person you were replying to originally mentioned they connect
their phone to their PC. If you are plugging it into the wall, if it’s like
the XS, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to recharge to full.

Connecting your phone to a computer is always going to be a much slower
charge. I would plug it into the wall instead. It should only take an hour
or two to fully recharge from a low to completely dead state back up to
100 percent.
