Hi Tom, You can add Battery level as a complication on I think pretty much most watch faces and then, if you like, you could set it to auto speak so that every time you wake up your watch the battery level would auto speak. As for text messages, did you make sure on your iPhone you go to Settings > Your Apple Account (at the very top) > iCloud and turn on Messages? Mirroring only refers and applies to notifications.
