That is odd. When I got my 5 on launch day, I took it out of the box. I was able to use triple click home and voiceover came up with no issues at all. How odd. Rich Cavallaro

I was truly shocked because it had not been touched, he handed it straight out of the box to me while he left to get my otter box defender.
