I'm not sure about making it happen automatically, as it is supposed to do it 
while locked, plugged in, connect to Wi-Fi, which I always assumed it happened 
over night.
You can go into your settings, double tap on your name at the top, double tap 
on iCloud and go to iCloud Backup and manually tell it to backup now.

Otherwise, I'd call Apple Accessibility: 877-204-3930.

Hello list,

I got a text this morning saying my IPhone had not been backed up in 2 weeks.  
The text went on to inform me that the phone would be backed up when connected 
to power & wifi.  Well of course my phone has been connected to power many 
times in 2 weeks.  It is always connected to wifi when in my apartment.  I have 
double checked that numerous times since my recent upgrade to the current 
version of IOS.  Of course, prior to this upgrade, the phone was backing up 
nicely.  So when I connect it to power, is there something I can check that 
will tell me if the phone is being backed up?
And is there some setting I need to reset to get this to happen?
