Hi Grant,
Thanks. I figured it had to be either a shaky data connection or something
to do with the Apple servers. Both of us were probably on 3g at the time,
and I probably hit one of those spots around town where reception is weak.
Whatever the case, I try to keep regular texting to a minimum since I don't
have text messaging in my plan.

One of you probably lost their internet connection temporarily, or
there was a problem communicating with Apple's servers. In that case
as long as "Send as SMS" is turned on under Settings/Messages, it'll
fall back to regular text messaging for those situations. I recommend
you leave that setting turned on unless regular text messages are
expensive, otherwise there will occasionally be times when you don't
receive messages from other iOS users for a while.
Cheers,
Grant

Hi,
This may be a silly question, but I'm asking anyway.
In the messages app, when I'm having a conversation with one of my
contacts
who also has an iPhone, iMessage is usually turned on, and I'll see some
sort of indication that I'm sending using iMessage. However, we were
having
a conversation tonight on my way home from work and all of a sudden I was
sending regular text messages. Why is that?
