I don't know about Richard's wife, but I crocheted mine, crocheted pouches for my phone and Victor Reader Stream, so I can get clothes out of dryer, do dishes and other tasks with devices hanging on me and use PRN.
You could make one out of sturdy cloth or quilted cloth. Sometimes I put my phone around my waist, which means I have to slip it down and tie off the strap. Usually, I wear it cross over. It wil be interesting to hear about Richard's.
