You are right about rail been faster to read once it’s on the containers. The big advantage to the pen friend is that a sighted person can do the whole business. They can do it when they have time, not when you both have time, so you can make the braille labels that they can’t make. I actually just bit the bullet and ordered one of the 6-dot braille labelers from LoganTech since I don’t have a Perkins any more and really don’t use braille for anything except labels. The little plastic Dymo gadgets with the wheel you can turn are way to tedious and I can easily justify this investment as a business expense.
