Anybody on the planet can download the BardMobile app, but only if you are
a
registered user can you log in and download bard books.
NLS has the authority, and the ability, to authorize other players as they
have done for the hardware devices like the Victor Streams and Plextalks.
Again, anyone on the planet can buy those devices but unless they have a
registered account with NLS, they cannot access NLS books.
Yes, it is a copyright issue, but the authorization to play copywritten
material is controlled by NLS and it is extra secure because you also have
to have a registered account which means a doctor or rehabilitation agency
have certified that you have a print disability.
I don’t even know if Winston would want to go down that path of becoming
an
authorized player. The BardMobile app is perfect for my uses.
This all began because someone asked how to play BARD books with Voice
Dream
Reader and has received the answer but it has spiraled into this
discussion.

I’m sure it’s a copyright issue. In order to download the BARD app, you
have
to be a registered patron of thee NLS library system, which means you
qualify for books in a specialized format. Otherwise, potentially, anybody
with an iPhone and Voice Dream Reader could get all these free audiobooks.

That is correct. Voice Dream Reader cannot read protected content. Maybe
one day. Perhaps we should all write to NLS requesting they make Voice
Dream Reader an authorized player, though the BARDMobile app is great and
