Whatever you do, if it is updating, don’t remove it from the charger. It won’t talk to you for a long time. Mine did the same thing it’s OK. I hope you haven’t done anything like removed it from the charger. What of the things that helped me a whole lot was listening to the podcast that David woodbridge made on the applevis site. I know they are from 2015 but they still apply. I am still learning as well.
