Kathy, I would urge you and everyone to get in the habit of adding custom pronunciations in iOS for those many times when synthesizers totally botch a word or name's pronunciation. You can find this in Settings, General, Accessibility, Speech, and Pronunciations. You can double tap the add button in the upper right corner and key in the mispronounced word and either type or dictate your own pronunciation.

As for reading speed, I read a little bit faster than some people, who, believe it or not, prefer Jaws default, which makes me a bit impatient if exposed to it for long enough, and have to get past thinking why can t they speed it up some; I really don t want to let myself feel superior because I can read faster.
