Indeed. This is the model I have. To be clear, my preference is to have a
simple talking scale that doesn’t need to be connected to any device to work,
but alas, I’m apparently kryptonite to My Weigh talking scales.

The Drop Kitchen scale measures to the tenth of the gram and from what I can
tell, is pretty accurate. There is a button the the scale itself where you can
zero out the weight and when in the scale screen, if you are on the actual
element that gives the weight, VO will speak it in real time as you add or
subtract whatever it is you’re measuring. Focus may end up at the top of the
screen however if you get an alert or if you take a heavier item like a bowl or
plate off the scale. It isn’t always, but it does happen every now and then. I
recently changed out the battery after a year of usage. It cost me less than
$5. The scale can weigh up to 6 KG. More than enough for kitchen purposes.

For powdery things like flour or whatever or if I know I’m going to get my
hands dirty and even though my phone’s an XR so in theory it should be able to
handle a little moisture or dust, I’ll still maybe slip the phone into a little
zip lock or sandwich bag to avoid getting it gunked up or dirty.

I hadn’t heard of the smart chef scale, but it also sounds like an interesting
option.

The Drop Kitchen scale also promotes itself as a cooking tool as I think you
can use it with a separate recipe function, but honestly, I’ve never even
bothered with that part of it since it was the scale aspect I was looking for.

There is one called the Drop Kitchen scale, Cristobal has one and seems to like
it.

I like smart stuff but this is one item where I am not so sure how well it
would work and especially how responsive it is in terms of automatic read outs.

I bake a lot the European way which means ingredients get weight instead of
adding them by cup or table spoon, tea spoon etc. If I need 500 grams of flour
I usually use a cup measurement to put it in the bowl which is on the scale, I
have one of the MyWeigh talking scales. After I put on a bunch I wait for a
couple of seconds and the scale tells me the weight, then I can add a bit more
etc. I would have to know for sure that with something like the Drop Kitchen
scale or any other which may exist I could have the app open and Voiceover
focused on the right area and I would get virtually instant and automatic read
outs, I would not want to have to touch the phone.

I think Cristobal and others said that the MyWeigh talking scales keep breaking
on them, I had my first one for at least 15 and maybe as long as 20 years, it
then didn’t work any more and I contacted MyWeigh and they send me a new one
for just a relatively small shipping fee of I think $20 or $25 Canadian. I
definitely call this good customer service and doubt that Drop provides such a
long warranty (I didn’t even have my original receipt or record of purchase any
more).

I have now had that new model for about 2 years and it’s been working
flawlessly.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Does anyone know of a food scale that will connect to the IPhone and give
readings on the phone? Just wondering as I need to replace a scale, and was
thinking if available I’d go the smart route.
