I don’t think you can put a new line in a regular text message. You can in an iMessage and of course I could be wrong regarding text messages. Considering that you only have 160 characters (about 30 to 35 words) I find it rarely necessary anyways. If you type a text message longer than that it gets broken into several messages of 160 characters on the recipients phone.
