First, 2 errors per page is actually very, very good; but I often get zero or 1
on a single page.
Do not expect the same from a paper back, especially since it will not separate
the two pages at this point.
Not to mention that paper backs printing is often less dense than with hard
backs.
But, if you did one page at a time, by covering the other page with a sheet of
paper, you should get very good results.
I have compared Voice Dream Scanner with OpenBook on a computer, and other than
the page separation; Voice Dream accuracy is equal to OpenBook.
You could try it with a stand, like the Fopydo Scanning Stand so you would not
have the issue of maybe not holding it perfectly level.

Greetings, everyone.

I have been playing with Voice Dream Scanner for about four days. This is my
first experience with OCR software for the iPhone, and I’m wondering what
degree of accuracy I should ultimately expect. I am well aware of all of the
conditions that affect accuracy, and I’m the first to admit that I may have
much to learn about camera distance and focus, print quality affecting
accuracy, and so on. However, I’m asking about how the software behaves under
optimal conditions.

Using good lighting, what appears to be decent camera focus based on the
steadiness of the Scanner tone, and good printing quality, I can’t do much
better than two errors per page using a flat document. Wehn I try to scan an
inexpensive paperback, this error is markedly more disappointing even if I try
to flatten the book against the table.

I’m thinking anyone can occasionally get an error-free scan, but, for instance,
if one were to scan fifteen pages in batch mode using a book or a flast
document, what would the average error rate be under very decent conditions?

I’m asking this question because as someone learning new software, I want to
know what top form means. I have heard superlatives used to describe the
behavior of some OCR readers. To me, words like “amazing” and “fantastic”
should not be used if the average error rate is two per page under optimal
conditions.

All thoughts are welcome. I will read everything posted in this thread.

Thank you.

Craig
