Thanks, Richard, for your thoughts, which have helped me develop a
perspective on Voice Dream Scanner’s abilities and limitations.  Now I know
not to chase after perfection when scanning inexpensive paperbacks.  Your
mentioning your experiences with Openbook took me back to the days of my
flatbed scanner and Kurzweil 1000 software, and I remember that with this
pairing, I had lots of granular settings to play with.  In the case of
Voice Dream Scanner and Seeing AI, there are no such settings.  Mind you,
I’m grateful for today’s innovation of truly portable scanning equipment,
and I’m sure recognition will get better.  I’ll continue experimenting with
proper camera focus, document print type, and so on.  I’m hoping other
folks will join this discussion.
