Thanks, Cristobal and Dan, I have heard about these subscription based workout
gadgets and that part doesn’t interest me at all, but it would be nice to have
access to some of the information GymKit measures, I’ll continue to look into
this a bit, as I said, I wouldn’t mind finding something, but if it takes
another year and maybe by then GymKit makes its way into the home fitness
equipment market that’s OK, too, I have a feeling Apple didn’t create this only
for professional gyms.

The only bluetooth enabled piece of workout equipment I currently own is my
Nautilus 618 treadmill. Mainly to sync my workouts with the Nautilus app and
Apple health. As far as actually manipulating the treadmill via my phone… It’s
still the various buttons on the machine itself.
I’ve got a Schwinn recumbent bike that I’ve had for going on 12 years and while
I’ve looked into some stationary bike upgrades with Bluetooth, I can’t say
there’s really been anything that’s jumped out at me. I’ll probably ride that
bad boy until it gives up the ghost.
I mean, there’s the Peloton line of equipment, but accessibility aside, it also
comes with a premium price tag as well as a monthly subscription.

Subject: Exercise equipment and GymKit

Hi,

My wife and I may be in the market for some sort of home gym equipment, most
likely a stationary bike to start with.
I am not in a big hurry with this and just thought I start checking into this
and what works or does not work with the Apple ecosystem since we both have
iPhones and Apple Watches, our new series 5 watches have shipped and I would
certainly give priority to any equipment which supports this as long as it is
also of good quality.
One quick Google search brought up an apple Insider article about GymKit which
was released 2 years ago, but while about 6 or 8 manufacturers are listed, the
article also says that this for now is only available in professional equipment
and is not available in home equipment. They mentioned one piece, can’t
remember if it was a stationary bike or Stairmaster, but they said something
about it costing $14,000 which is certainly beyond the budget of any normal
home user. Maybe if you are a multi-millionaire and you can afford a home with
a one or two thousand square foot home gym you could also afford to stock it
with equipment of that nature, but while I am prepared to pay a premium for a
premium piece of equipment which we would have for the next 10 or 15 years
there are limits.

Best regards,
Sieghard
