The first iPad to feature a Lightning connector was the iPad 4th Generation
which was released on November 2, 2012 with an A6X processor and it was
discontinued on October 16, 2014.
It was released with iOS 6.0.1 and the latest version of iOS which is supported
is 10.3.4 which was released on July 22, 2019.
It should still work fine, not sure how much battery life you get out of it
after such a long time especially if it has been gathering dust sitting
somewhere with a dead battery.

Subject: Reviving an old iPad

Hi,

I have a 10 inch iPad I'm considering resurrecting. I don't know how old it is.
It was probably one of the first, if not the first, to feature the lightning
connector, if that gives you some idea. I'm guessing this older model is no
longer being supported, and if so, how much functionality would I be able to
get out of it? I'm looking for a good traveling replacement for my larger
laptop, which I'm hoping I can keep home in favor of the lighter tablet. But I
don't want to go through the trouble of resurrecting it if my mileage will be
severely limited. I want to be able to check email, do Internet browsing, read
some RSS feeds, and maybe stream some movies. Thank you in advance for any tips
you can pass my way on whether or not I can breathe new life into this thing.

Best,

Joe
