Yeah, that's the thing that sucks about a lot of these devices. The Voyager Edge I first had began to conk out on me after 13 months. Surprise surprise, it was no longer under warranty at that time. My 5200 is still going strong two years later so that's good, but true, paying a not so insignificant amount for any of these devices just to have to continuously replace them after only a couple of years or whatever is terrible. Basically, you're endlessly paying anywhere from $40 to $70 a year in a faux subscription cost. Meanwhile, I've had a trusty pare of Bose sports inline mic headphones with a good old 3.55 MM jack for going on 7 years now and they're still going strong. Apple and all these companies pump up the wonders and convenience of Bluetooth, but what they don’t' say is that it's just another means for them to get you to always have to open your wallet as well. But anyway... the Plantronics 5200 is a solid earpiece.

They all use a built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, I have never seen a Bluetooth headset, especially not such a small one, which had any sort of replaceable battery. That is why I don't buy super-expensive headsets like the Airpods or $300 or $400 Bluetooth speakers, they have a lifespan of 3 or 4 years at the very most and then the batteries won't hold a lot of charge any more and you have to replace them. That is of course if they last that long. I bought my wife a Power Beats Bluetooth headset or whatever the one is called which has earbuds and is connected with a sort of cable/wire. It was not exactly cheap and after less than 2 years it refused to charge any more even though she is very careful with her stuff and when plugging in or unplugging the charge cable. Of course by that time there is no more warranty and you can throw the thing away, all in all it is disappointing. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Brian K. Dear Sieghard Weitzel && List: Do the Plantronics 5200 UC headphones use a replaceable battery or one that is built-in, tried to check the link you gave, but it had no description. Brian K. But just to be clear, the USB dongle is nothing but a Bluetooth receiver, it does not actually plug in and transmit via 2.4 GHz like the Logitech H800 which you can use in Bluetooth mode or 2.4 GHz wireless mode. If you have a laptop with Bluetooth then you would actually spend money unnecessarily since the Bluetooth USB dongle doesn't do anything you couldn't do anyway. If you have a desktop and you want to use it for that it's different, but you could actually buy cheaper Bluetooth USB dongles than what the UC version costs extra. I purchased a Plantronics VOYAGER- 5200-UC in July from Amazon. It is larger than the earlier models. Even so, the audio quality is especially good. I checked other Plantronics models and one from Sennheiser before finally locating this model; their user audio quality was not as good (earpiece volume could never be set to an acceptable level. I also had complaints about background noise with these other units. The VOYAGER- 5200-UC has great user audio level and the microphone level and audio quality must be good; the people I talk to using the earpiece give me good reports. This model has a nice carrying case with a good cradle for the earpiece. This particular earpiece comes with a USB dongle so you may also use the earpiece with a desktop or notebook computer. The unit is large and very few people will think you're talking to yourself as you walk down a street using the device. A positive point for it being such a large device. Here's the Amazon link for the model I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G49I2FA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1# I also purchased an add on improved ear tip produced by another manufacturer; CHOCKALOTTA 1-Pack in-Ear Tip Adapter Mount for Plantronics Voyager 5200. It has an unusual name, but greatly improved the audio and earpiece fit for me. Hope this helps. Hello listers, My Plantronics voyager edge needs replacement because its battery is no longer holding a full charge. This has been one of my all-time favorite Bluetooth earpieces so I'm looking for a replacement. Has Plantronics come up with a newer model or is the voyager edge still the latest version of that headset? Thank you in advance for any assistance.
