For users with monthly data cap, the easiest way to keep a check on data limit is to Reset Usage Statistics of the Cellular Data on monthly basis and to do this just go to Settings > Cellular > Scroll down and you'll get find Reset Statistics. Also Enable the low data mode for cellular data by going through Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data option > Scroll Down and Enable Low data mode.
With the above 2 options one can easily keep a track on the cellular data usage, also less data will be utilized. Hope this helps!
