Sieghard,
Thanks. I figured the USB extension cable was to allow placement of the dongle closer to the keyboard for use with a desktop computer. What I didn't realize was that when opening a new keyboard package, that the dongle was in the keyboard's battery compartment. Maybe that's a standard practice for USB dongle devices but this is my first one and I didn't realize that. If you plug the dongle straight into the computer, especially if it’s in a port in the back, you loose a lot of range and may get interference which you don’t get if you use this cable and put the receiver 3 or 4 feet away (I think that cable is 4 feet long. I get the same improvement with my Logitech H800 headset when using it with the USB dongle. If I plug it straight into the computer I can’t use my headset in my bedroom next door to the office. If I use a USB extension cable and hang it on the wall a few feet above the laptop it’s no problem. One thing I have yet to figure out is whether the same dongle can be used for the keyboard and the headset. Logitech calls it a “unifying receiver” and you can definitely use a USB receiver and the Logitech Options software to pair another keyboard or a mouse to it, but I am not sure about the headset. I have often wished Logitech would make a USB keyboard with a 3.5mm headphone jack on it so I could either plug speakers or a headset straight into the keyboard. The USB dongle or transmitter that sends the signal to the keyboard is housed in the keyboard's battery compartment not in the box with the keyboard, USB extension cable, and smart phone/tablet stand. I was totally unaware that this item existed and was assuming what is the USB extension cable also included the USB transmitter. The transmitter is very small and is reminiscent of a micro thumb drive. The battery compartment can be found on the bottom of the keyboard toward the top and to the left of center when the keyboard is face up. I would never have located the USB transmitter if my sighted brother wasn't aware of it from the pictures on Amazon and gone looking for it. 2. The keyboard uses two double A batteries which are user replaceable and come installed in the unit. HTH. Alan Lemly -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
