Actually, they are M4A files with a different extension, M4R.
iMazing should back them up, and with iTunes, you should also be able to find
them buried in your iTunes folder if you use iTunes.

I don't use windows ... so I can't provide a walk thru. However, ringtones are
just mp3 files (with a special suffix..m4r) and limited length. So any of the
aftermarket backup tools (e.g. IMazing for example) should have no problem
backing up/extracting and/or transferring such files. Personally, I've never
purchased a ringtone. I make my own with itunes (duplicate the song, trim to
the right length (I don't recall the limit offhand, 90s perhaps), export it,
rename it to *.m4r and then move it to phone ;>

As such, I don't worry much about backing them up per se ... I've got the
originals (but regular iphone backups preserve them anyway).

Hi,

Is it still possible to download ringtones you purchased from the iTunes store
to your windows PC for safe keeping? If so can someone walk me through how it's
done as it's been ages since I've even purchased a ringtone let alone thought
to archive it on my PC.

Thanks in advance.
