Richard, per your suggestion, I contacted apple accessibility and have learned 
that the phone is at&t.  The apple person led me to believe I could use a Gsm 
onCDMA.  Hmm, wonder if an apple store could do whatever needs to be done to 
make it work on cdma, if at&t unlocks it.
