Mary, You probably have already done all this, but have you cleared out the app switcher, cleared the RAM by holding down the power until it says power off, releasing the power button, then holding in the home button until it comes back talking? This sounds like either a resource issue or a network issue, but if the XR is working correctly, I'm betting on the resource issue.
