I'm not sure what you mean by synthetic voices, since their all synthetic, but I'm assuming your thinking of formant synthesis when you're thinking of the more robotic voices versus concatenative synthesis which produces the more human sounding voices. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_synthesis Talk Back and JAWS are screen readers and not text to speech engines. They can both use multiple engines. Talk Back usually comes with the TTS from Google which is a concatenative TTS while you're probably thinking of Eloquence when you think of JAWS which uses formant synthesis.
