I recommend buying the adapter from Apple that matches the type of memory card you have. The below link is to the Apple store for one for SD cards, but at the bottom of the page there are links to a USB adapter as well as others. Since iOS 13, you can use these adapters for any files through the files app to copy files to or from the card. The descriptions only mention cameras, but it works with any files. You have to plug your lightning power cord into the adapter, and the card, then the adapter has a short cable that plugs into your phone lightning jack. That way your phone is powered, otherwise the phone cannot copy files to and from a card.
