I do not have personal experience with the Fire tablet, but I have heard very good things about them. Other than they run on Android, which is not my favorite but is better than it used to be and if they cannot save up for an iPad, then I'd suggest they read many reviews and make sure it has the features they want. I know they make several sizes, they have a kids edition, standard and plus.
